Position Description
 
The superintendent will be in control of all field operations and work hand in hand with our Project Management team to construct a safe, high quality, highly profitable project. The Superintendent role is key to creating great client relations and developing our greatest resource, our employees.
 
This position has jurisdiction over all field operations including: safety, quality, efficiency, planning, scheduling, managing resources, team building, risk assessment, cost estimation, subcontractor relations, and execution strategy.
 
Responsibilities
 

  • Enforces all safety policies and must address safety violations among employees, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Must complete the project through the use of the Quality Management System. This system fosters efficiency by preventing rework, may recognize potential rework patterns, and can help in the development of solutions to eliminate rework.
  • Must set production objectives with the crews and must make sure those objectives are communicated and enforced.
  • Heads the creation of the project schedule with the Project Manager and continually checks to see that the plan is being executed.
  • Must create an accurate Four Week Look Ahead schedule on a weekly basis and adhere to said schedule.
  • Must implement effective cost controlling measures to maximize profits in all facets of the project including labor, resources, equipment, and other expenditures.
  • Works to stay under labor and other budgets
  • Excitedly builds a team by securing Top Performers through interviewing, assessing, mentoring, and retaining them.
  • Works with foreman on pre-planning, surveying, plan reading, efficiency, an economical crew size, quality of workmanship, and overall safety of the project to create the most economical build of the project as possible.
  • Daily huddles are key to communication, resolving issues and sharing ideas so that projects can maintain efficiency and profitability.
  • Ensures teams complete the extra work sheets in a timely manner and combines with the Project Management Team to make sure they are processed.
  • Reviews all Daily Reports, both of the Foreman and the Subcontractor, to check for accurately reported hours, timing, production quantities, and general activity summaries.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of the key operational details of the subcontract and must hold the subcontractor culpable to the agreement and the company’s specifications.
  • Always seeks to keep the most efficient size fleet of equipment as maximize profits. Promotes culture of care for equipment.
  • Seeks new work opportunities through client relationships.

 
Qualifications
 
 

  • Five or more years of comparable construction experience showing progressive increases in responsibility. Ability to lead a diverse group a must.
  • Exceptional leadership skills a must.
  • Experience in the North Carolina Department of Transportation
  • Background with concrete pile supported bridge structures
  • Background with Concrete Piles, Concrete Girders, including post tensioning and Concrete Deck
  • Prior involvement as a construction foreman
  • Must have experience leading complex construction projects. Show ability to deal with different variables of a project such as difficult client and/or complexity of scope of work.
  • Extensive knowledge of various areas of construction (earthwork, structures, mechanical, utilities, electrical,ect.)
  • Extensive knowledge of the OSHA Safety regulations
  •  Exceptional teamwork, communication, and people skills are essential.
  • Eager and pragmatic thinker, with decisive decision making skills.
  • Must be able to handle multiple items at any given time in a fast paced challenging environment.
  • Must have a strong time management system and establish excellent organizational skills.
  • Must have a track record of career progression and achievement.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite, P3/P6 Primavera software.
  • Basic understanding of HCSS
